Biography

June Canedo de Souza (b. 1989; United States) works in painting, sculpture, and performance. Her practice is shaped by the gestural and haptic conditions of her upbringing, how the women before her transcended survival. She earned her MFA from the Milton Avery School of the Arts at Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, NY, and is an alumni of the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Madison, ME.

Recent projects and exhibitions include the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, Los Angeles, CA; the Kitchen OnScreen, New York, NY; and MIMO Gallery, New York, NY. Her books have been acquired by the Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY; New York University, New York, NY; Harvard University, Cambridge, MA; the Getty Research Institute, and more. She was a finalist for the Foundwork Artist Prize (2022) and is a 2024–25 session artist at Recess, Brooklyn, NY. June Canedo de Souza lives and works in New York, NY.
