In Memoriam: Dr. Joette James

It is with great sadness that Hamiltonian Artists marks the passing of its board president Dr. Joette James. Joette was passionate in her love of the arts, never losing the ability to marvel and wonder. She joined the Hamiltonian Artists board of directors in early 2020, jumping right in as Vice President. She gave generously of her time, brilliance, and enthusiasm for art and artists, especially those connected to the DC area.

Joette was looking forward to taking on the role of board President this year, to lead the organization she loved with her characteristic vigor and enthusiasm.

Joette’s passion for learning was inspirational. In addition to her as work as a neuropsychologist, serving people of all ages with learning and developmental disorders and disabilities, few people know that she recently earned a master’s degree in art history. Joette went all in in all that she did.

We will miss her compassion, enthusiasm, love of art, coffee, and cocktails, her laugh, and thoughtfulness, among so many other exceptional ways of being. She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched, and there are many. The Hamiltonian family joins the community in mourning this deep loss.
