Martina Loncar

Martina Loncar (b. 1997, Toronto, Canada) is a mixed media artist whose work explores themes of connection, interdependence, and care. Trees and quilts are recurring subjects in her work, serving as metaphors for the ways individuals and communities support and sustain one another. Her expansive practice includes drawing, painting, paper-cutting, collage, video, and installation. Martina also writes and exhibits poetry alongside her work.

Martina was born in Toronto, Canada and currently lives and works in Washington, D.C. She earned her BA at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York and her MFA in Studio Art at the American University in Washington, D.C. She has had multiple group and solo shows, including exhibitions at Chesapeake Arts Center, VisArts, Sitar Arts Center, DC Arts Center, and the Anacostia Arts Center. Her work is included in the American University’s Watkins Collection and has received a review by the Washington Post. This past summer, Martina attended a residency at the Vermont Studio Center.
