Jonna McKone

2026–2026

Jonna McKone is an artist based in Baltimore whose work combines photography, documentary, living matter, and archives to explore the convergence of place, material, and form. She is interested in the fragility of truth and how we remember land, architecture and bodies as vessels of history. Working with expanded and materials-based photography practices, oral history, deep engagement with place, and vernacular archives, her image-making often challenges perception, seeking to represent the invisible and incremental. McKone’s work has been supported by the Andy Warhol Foundation, a Rubys Artist Grant, the Puffin Foundation, the Maryland State Arts Council, and the Center for Documentary Studies’ Lewis Hine Fellowship. She has been an artist-in-residence at Monson Art’s Abbott Watts Residency for Photography, Platteforum, Skidmore College’s Storyteller’s Institute, and Kent Cultural Alliance. Her work has shown at Candela Gallery, Goucher College’s Silber Gallery, Area 405, Bmore Art’s Connect and Collect Gallery, Salisbury University’s Fulton Gallery, Power Plant Gallery (Durham, NC), the Walters Museum, Interloc (Thomaston, ME), VisArts, and the Midwest Center for Photography (Wichita, KS). Jonna is a graduate of Bowdoin College and Duke’s MFA in Experimental & Documentary Arts. Alongside her studio practice, she is an award-winning independent filmmaker.
