We Were Here

Madeline A. Stratton

February 12–March 19, 2022

Madeline A. Stratton’s We Were Here is a new site-specific installation. In this exhibition, Stratton deviates from domestic ideals of design and functionality and uses unconventional approaches to produce improvisational architecture. She uses motifs from her remembered domestic spaces, including banisters, chandeliers, and shelves, in conversation with other familiar abstracted objects.

Madeline A. Stratton (b. 1987, Memphis, TN; lives and works in Washington, DC) earned her MFA at the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, MD (2018); MA in History of Art and the Art Market: Modern and Contemporary Art from Christie’s Education, New York, NY (2011); and BA in Studio Art from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN (2010).
