News Update (no. 6)

HAMILTONIAN NEWS UPDATE (April 11, 2008)

There are two upcoming shows for two of our newly selected So-Hamiltonian Fellows at New Wave 2008 in Virginia Beach and the Jan Larsen Studios in NYC.  If you are in the neighborhood, please go visit their shows.  Here are some of the information:

  1. BRYAN ROJSUONTIKUL will be in the group show New Wave 2008 at the Contemporary Art Center in Virginia in Virginia Beach.  The opening is TONIGHT from 7-11p and show will run until June 15, 2008.

The Contemporary Art Center of Virginia's (CAC's) 13th annual, juried exhibition, highlights and supports Virginia artists. This year's exhibition is jurored by one of DC own, Anne Surak, director of Project 4 in Washington DC.  The show will showcase 50 works (paintings, drawings, photographs and installation works) by 17 artists across the Commonwealth. "This year's exhibition features artists who are in sync with national and international trends in contemporary art," said CAC associate curator Natalie Bray.

2.      MICHAEL ENN SIRVET will be featured in a solo show next Saturday (April 19) at Jan Larsen Studios in 'DUMBO' Brooklyn, NY.  The Gallery is at 63 Pearl Street, Brooklyn, NY, literally right under the Manhattan Bridge on the East River. The opening will start at 7:00 PM on April 19.  Michael will be unveiling a "process" piece at this show for which the creation is being captured in a short documentary film.

One more exciting news, another So-Hamiltonian Fellow, YOUNGMI ORGAN has just been selected as a semi-finalist for the 2008 Sondheim Prize.  There will be a second round of review and approximately six artists who will be selected as finalists for the prize.  The finalists will have their work displayed at The Baltimore Museum of Art and the remaining artists will be included in an exhibition at Artscape 2008 in the Decker and Meyerhoff galleries in the Buildingof the Maryland Institute College of Art. We all wish Youngmi good luck.

Cheers,

RENOVATION UPDATE

The construction of the gallery space at 1353 U Street NW continues on.  The building has just been top-offed a couple of weeks ago.  During our top-off party, I am glad that most of our fellows have a chance to see the new space and to meet with a few of HA's board members and panelists on our selection panel.  For a visual update of the construction progress, please visit the Hamiltonian Blog (http://hamiltonianblog.blogspot.com).
