Artist Statement

A. B. Miner received an MFA from Queens College, CUNY in 2000 and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities Young Artist Program Grant and Artist’s Fellowship awards. Recent exhibitions include “Me, You and Those Other Folks” at the gallery at Flashpoint and the solo exhibition “Chimera” at H & F Fine Arts. His curatorial pursuits include a 2007 writing residency at Maryland Art Place in Baltimore and curatorial work at the Hirshhorn Museum.  With oil impasto, the artist captures monumentality on a tiny scale.  Beauty and the grotesque co-exist with commentary on gender fluidity, multiple identities, and bodily mutation in the artist’s (mostly self) portraits.
